    Old German Porcelain 19 Piece Canister Set decorated with Pink Roses Gold Trim and raised beading. The set includes a wall mount salt box and flower box, two bottles, six large canisters, six spice jars and three creamers. The salt and flower box have a hinged wooded lid. The set has crazing on the whole set. The set has the name "Grell" on the bottom. The condition of the set is good. There are some flaws and fading. The condition is good for the age.
    According to the notes found in the set. It was brought to the U.S. by my Great great grandparents when they immigrated in about 1875. They are said to be from "Berlin Germany".

    Translation is from German to English -

    Kaffe = Coffee
    Reis = Rice
    Essig = Vinegar
    Oel = Oil
    Gries = Grease
    Brösel = Bread Crumbs
    Zucker = Sugar
    Salz = Salt
    Mehl = Flower
    Gewürz = (All) Spice
    Kümmel = Caraway
    Zimmt = Mustard
    Pfeffer = Pepper
    Paprika = Paprika
    Nelken = Clove

    Ant help in identifying the "Grell" mark on the bottom would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

      Gries = semolina
      Zimt = cinnamon
      Paprika = red bell pepper (powder)

      And the female first name "Gretl" (not "Grell", look again) is the name of the container series (not the decoration though).
