Lapel pin

This is a very small lapel pin, its about 1/2" in diameter. It has a star over the top of a laurel or wreath. In the middle of the star is the initials "US", surrounded by 20 stars. I acquired this pin in an assortment of other pins from the estate of an uncle who died. He was a WWI veteran, worked for Metropolitan Life insurance Co for many years. Wondering if this has a military connection, or possibly a VFW connection.
