I recently came across this an have no information on history. It is 3 3/4" long and 1 3/4" high at longest point.

I have seen the black leopard at the Bronx Zoo lounging on an overhead log exactly like this. Leopards, like Scottie dogs, werre a jewelry fashion craze at one time. There are some wonderful articulated shoulder brooches out there that let the wearer have a leopard draped over her shoulder.
Your leopard has changed her spots to squares!
Meant to be worn on a coat or jacket lapel. Very 1970s.
