Appreciate any information regarding date and country if this shovel. I can not find any markings. Maybe rust destroyed the markings. The handle is suppose to collapse but frozen.

It is an Army trenching tool. It folds up and has a holster that goes on your web belt. Pain in the butt digging a fox hole. Great weapon to cut a throat in close combat if you swing it right.

Thanks for your information. Do you know what era? I have not been able to find one with this type handle. Most are either wood or metal post type.

Called an entrenching tool or e- tool for short. It is a modern US military item-- hard to tell if yours is a genuine issue item or a knock off version.

Take a look online for "e-tool" and you will find a lot of information.

They actually work fairly well-- I have used them numerous times to dig a hasty fighting position.
