What is this piece? Beautiful little silk cushion with a button inside a small Japanese Bowl

The little cushion is attached inside the bowl and solid but soft. it's signed on the bottom with a bunch of characters. I think that it is Japanese, but i don't know what it's called or for. any help appreciated. thank you!
