    Hi All,

I am brand new to this site and was hoping to gain a little more information about this old table. From what I am told, this item came from one of the original Delmonico’s restaurants in NYC. My GG Grandfather worked as a server for the Delmonico family for nearly half a century and this table has been in the family since the late 1800’s. He was a prominent fixture at the Madison Square Cafe Delmonico’s which opened in the 1870’s. He is quoted as serving General Grant before he became president, so he likely worked for the family at their other restaurant locations as well.

The table appeared to have gold inlay at some point and its most prominent feature is the bird design. I have included a signature near the wing of one of the birds. Is anyone familiar with this artist/maker? Looks like it could be Cramer, Cumin, Cormier or similar. The table is two-tone, Black top and Brown sides. Sorry for the quality of the photos -

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    Best,

    Matt

I found that the signature may belong to Joseph Cremer, a furniture maker in Paris during the mid to late 1800’s. Would anyone have an example of Cremer’s signature for comparison?
