My Dad received the butterfly knife while stationed in the Philippines during WW11. The knife was given to him by a Philippine scout/translator during the period 1942 to 1943. I know the Philippines were recognized for manufacturing the butterfly knife. I am interested in the manufacturer, the date of manufacture, and the composition of the material. The knife appears to have a wooden handle with a bone or ivory insert/decoration. The butterfly knife was considered a fighting weapon in the Philippines.

I'd say it's bone on account of how blackened it is (Haversian system) and uneven its surface.

I fear that what you know is all there is to know (unless there's a mark or inscription anywhere?). Balisongs were popular DIYs in the Philippines in that era - it may very well be the scout made it themself. The term you'll want to search for is "FHM", for "Filipino handmade". The commentary and photos here (http://www.balisongcollector.com/blotter.html) might help you out a little understanding your knife

I should add that I have seen a photograph of the exact knife, making it doubtful that it's a one off.
