I bought this because the monogram is the same as my Pepere's rLw. It stands about 5.5 inches tall and i think it's a pen-holder. it has a felt liner which is pretty worn at the edge.

Interesting item but why would anyone need that many pens?
I sooner think you have an old brass cylindrical cigar humidor for the desk top.
i have 5 larger penholders on my desk now and they are ALL full!
I believe you will find brass cylinder humidor's equally interesting. Ones from the Capone collection are selling for $5000.00 to $7000.00 and no ink stains in the bottom :) They were very popular pre 1940.
wow! maybe this wasn't a pen holder. there's no ink stains in it.??
