Val La Point served in the 81st NY Infantry regiment from 1861 to his wounding in 1864.
    Died Thursday, Aug. 28th, 1913.
"At Cold Harbor he lost a leg, in addition to receiving two body wounds the same day.
He carried up to his death several Confederate bullets in his body, but nobody would have known that
he was a participant in the great struggle had they waited for him to tell it."
This old newspaper clipping was kept for decades by his family.
