This is a neat box I am trying to figure out its original purpose, jewelry box. I am not sure what the metal is and the origin and date. Any info would be helpful.

There were so many boxes created even after and maybe especially after the war. A lot held the small 3x3 photos and knicknacks, some odd jewelry,my mother had 2 of them, a lot of people back then used them for birth certificates and bills also. I remember back then people kept the bills for almost everything.
