Looking to find out what, exactly, this is. Found it in my granddad's house while clearing it out. Quite heavy, but not so heavy that my delicate lady hands can't hold it. Probably 2.5 - 3 foot. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks to be a British M1853 Cavalry saber.

A lot of these were imported and Confederate used.

Can you see any markings on the blade-- near the handle?
