Astronaut / Cosmonaut Space Walk Pencil Case 1960s!

Is this an Astronaut or a Cosmonaut?
I think he's supposed to be a generic Space Man, since his shoulder patch isn't a flag I recognize, but he looks a bit Russian to me.
Even the style of the illustration seems to say that this item originated in the land of Sputnik!
Or is it just my imagination running away with me?
In any case, he looks pretty cool floating out there with The Good Earth spinning in the background!
The other side of this zippered vinyl case, which is stamped "ARABIAN" on the inside has gotten a tad faded sitting in or too close to a window for too many years.
It features a 3-man crew inside a space capsule. They're probably having a great time out there with a fantastic, unobscured view of our tiny, fragile little planet.
