I found this at a yard sale, obviously someone painted the original surface. One dial is missing and the back is missing, I am trying to find out what it is, no labels anywhere unfortunately. Probably value is in the "funky retro' decor but if anyone knows anything, that would be really great! estatesalesinct@gmail.com

very similar, thanks, do you think its worth getting the paint off and refinishing? Thank you for taking the time to send me that link!

They are very common, Not that high in demand, The cost the refinish it will to expensive. If you are planning on keeping it for yourself and the radio works it might be worth it, if you plan on flipping it and selling it after refinishing, you won't see any return on your investment, you will more than likely not be able to sell it for any profit, you will see a loss.

Might be good for parts for the right person. one in good condition do not sell for that much as they are very common. The electronics, the wiring insulation gets brittle with its age and the insulation falls off inside, and to make it functional, is a very expensive propsition. so not only would you be looking at an expensive refinishing tog et that paint off... if thats even possible, but to make it safe, the chassis of the radio would have to be completly re-wired. best left as a conversation piece

This is a 1942 Philco 42-380 Console radio. Originally sold for $78.00 brand new! It actually isn't real expensive to have the receiver rewired and updated. I had mine done for $130.00 and that included adding a jack on the back so I could play my cd player into it for the times I wanted to listen to my old time radio shows through the same system that they played through back in the 40's! The dial in your photo is actually a brown color and it is not supposed to be black.
The interesting thing about this radio is that their was only 108,000 of them ever produced and they are a very powerful radio as well as one of the only few that can be rewired with a new power cord with a ground. all the other had only a two circuit system and this one has a 3. Also when this radio was made it was the death of Philco which was switching gears and making radio and communication products for the military as it headed into war against japan. When the war ended
Philco couldn't catch up to Zenith and other companies who already started getting deep into consumers pockets for the first home televisons. Philco never regained their dominance in home entertainment and exists today from buy outs as phillips. This radio is also the second time that people saw a slanted panel to change their radio stations. (Radios since the early 20's all had a flat appearance and it forced the individual to bend over and lean to change the station. This one allowed you to stand up straight and switch your station) This was one of the last great console radios. Value when refurbished in a good market... between $200.00 - $400.00 depending on how well it looks and works.
