I believe it is a railroad shipping crate from Goodyear. It says Goodyear Square Deal Rubber co. It contained a boy's shoes. 27 x 18 13. I posted this a few years ago but have not been able to find any more about this since. I would appreciate any information about this. The newspaper that lines it is from 1967.
If anyone has any information on something like this I would love to hear it.
I looked for awhile. Didn't see much. Maybe kera can look up some patents..

So, yes, "SQUARE DEAL" was a trademarked name registered by Goodyear, and the trademark listing at USPTO is full of useful information:

First used in April 1930, and Goodyear seems to have thought it important enough to reregister it twice.

I'm inclined to think that the boys' footwear in the shipping container was boots, because of the word TEMPEST:

You'd want boots in seriously bad weather.
I don't know if the "2.5 TO 6" is a size range. Boys' size size 6 in modern shoes would be close to a womens' size 8:

Then again, U.S. shoe sizes could have changed since 1930. Consistency has never been a virtue of U.S. sizing.
As to "MILWAUKEE WIS," perhaps this was a shipping destination.

Yes, I did post this about 2 years ago. Didn't get too much feedback. Beyond thrilled to get this much information this time. I've had it for over 15 years and always wondered about its history. I'll see what my next step will be.
