Enelia Paz Gómez (1946-2006) emigrated from Columbia to Sweden in 1974. She first painted with watercolors, and then tried ink and oil. In 1978-79 Enelia studied art under Sven Hagmarker and Gun Toftgård at the Mullsjö Peoples College, Sweden. During the fall semester of 1978 the well known ceramicist Paul Denny from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma was teaching ceramics at the college. Professor Denny inspired Enelia to take up ceramics seriously. From 1981-1984 Enelia studied Art at Phillips University, with special emphasis on ceramics. Among her teachers were John Randolph, Jim Bray, Priscilla Smith, and Paul Denny. Her work has been shown in California, Florida, and Oklahoma, in Mexico, and in The Netherlands, Sweden, and Germany. In 1979 she wrote BLACK IN COLUMBIA, which describes her early life experiences and the roots of her artistic inspiration. Originally published in Swedish, her book has been translated into four languages.
