      jbingham95, Cool. :-)

It's very interesting, considering the history of the area (Lakeland apparently wasn't founded until 1885).

"After Florida seceded from the Union and entered the Civil War, Combee joined the First Florida Calvary Company K. A Confederate pension applied for by Sarahan in 1902 shows Combee fought under Gen. Braxton Bragg in the Kentucky Campaign, and the battles of Chicamauga and Missionary Ridge. The record shows that when the Confederacy surrendered, Combee had returned home to Polk County on sick furlough."

"According to state records, Combee was one of more than 400 Confederate veterans who wound up in Polk County following the Civil War, working hard to scrape a living from the soil, raise cattle, dig phosphate, build railroads and help to shape the area into what it is today."

Soldiers were quartered in the Lakeland area prior to going to Cuba during the Spanish-American War:

More recently (OK, WWII), the Lakeland area had an army field:

You might want to touch bases with the local historical society:

Thanks to everyone for the love and thank you Keramikos for the great information that’s much appreciated.I’ve got several fenced in wooded acres behind my house that nobody but the previous owners of this property have walked on since the 1920’s.I’m going to buy a metal detector and see what else I can find. Thanks everyone.Have a great day.

      Way cool. :-)

So the Civil and Spanish American wars have been eliminated as sources.

That 1902 date is the earliest for the Great Seal button type. It was made for a pretty long period.

Yours has a rim, so that probably puts it at circa 1910 or later:

There might be some other clues to date it more precisely:

      https://metaldetectingforum.com/index.php?threads/old-army-button-and-a-lipstick-tube.121874/

"I have an old metal detector I never used I’m checking the rest of this property with."

It seems like a worthwhile effort.

"UPDATE Please don’t tell anyone but I found Jimmy Hoffa and Amelia Earhart’s plane and my good friend Jed Clampett just found oil."

And up through the ground came a-bubblin' crude.

Oil, that is. Black gold. Texas tea.

"Time for an all expenses paid cruise for my CW friends."

      Yee haw!
