Being a rock-poster artist in the 1960s was mostly a solitary affair, but there were exceptions. Stanley Mouse collaborated repeatedly with the late Alton Kelley, while Rick Griffin and Victor Moscoso worked together on a handful of posters for both the Family Dog, which produced dance concerts and the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco and a venue in Denver.

These postcard-versions of a pair of Griffin/Moscoso posters for two Jim Kweskin Jug Band shows advertise Family Dog productions in both cities. The image on the left, known among collectors as Avalon Splash or FD-095, is dated December 8-10; the Sons of Champlin opened for Kweskin, with lights by the Diogenes Lantern Works. The image on the right, called Denver Splash or FD-D-13, is dated December 1-2 and features the same lineup, except Solid Muldoon replaced the Sons as the Jug Band's opener.

I have not read anything definitive about the division of labor on these two posters, but at a glance it appears that Moscoso created the intricate lettering that forms the base of both images, while Griffin contributed the top, including the rainbow. If anyone knows for sure who did what, I'd love to know.

I love the poster set. I have a set of these same two as well at The Vintage Poster Gallery.
It is good to see that another set of these rock posters have survived in great shape. The paper stock on the rock posters was not very good so most of these 60's and 70's posters have fallen apart of just disappeared.
