The purchase of this wire a year and a half ago re-energized my interest in barbed wire collecting. I had never seen or heard of anything like it. The spool has a metal band with barbs cut from the edge and held in place by a nail. It represents a unique departure from the traditional barbed wire and opened my eyes to the almost endless patent ideas regarding barriers in the late 1800's.
It is listed in Hagemeier as 134 G with no known patent number or name. Larry Love found a few on a board in an old small town antique store, south east of Denver back in the early 80's. It is by far my favorite "organic" wire.
Note: I use the term organic loosely to include those wires with wood as an element in the wire either as a warning plate or to hold a barb. There aren't many types compared to the all-metal barbed wires and they did not survive the years well unless they were used in a dry environment.
