Festivo by Iittala are/have been faked quite a bit. This week I purposely bought a pair of fakes, so that I could do a little side by side comparison.
It is funny because when you see them side by side, it seems obvious. However, when you are wandering around a flea/thrift/etc it can get a little blinding. Something shiny seems so right in the sea of junk.

    My Observations:
    1) the real ones are beefier (see second picture)
    2) real ones are a little shorter, but that can be really difficult to determine when you are in the field
    3) the "cave" where you put the candle is much deeper on the fakes. (note candy cane)
    4) the "ridging" on the real ones is rough and covers the entire height of the candle stick...not the top or the bottom.

Well I hope that helps you when you are on your next hunt. I will say if I didn't have my lovely Festivos, I'd kinda like the fakes. But they really pale when seated side by side.

Yes that is true lovely but sometimes, when you are combing through all the made in China noise, round or not is difficult. Plus some of mine are dang close it really interesting though.

Haven't we all! It was a fun little experiment. I hope to start a trend here. Tips at spotting fakes.

That I've not seen here in Australia. But give it time. We lag behind here on some things. Time wise we are ahead of everywhere except New Zealand and inky!

Made a run to donate today, cleaning out closets, toy room, etc and there were a TON of people dropping off at the Amvet truck...maybe the thrifts will heat up.
