I LOVE this weird sculpture someone brought to me the other day. i wish i could find out who made it and somehow put it into some context. it's very sci-fi / bizarre and is exactly the kind of strange piece of art you can find here in oakland - which is why i really love collecting here.

A bit of a whimsy? : ) Could this have been inspired by The Cheshire Cat? : ) Here's an old and very popular illustration of The Cheshire Cat from "Alice in Wonderland".

thanks mikkochristmas11. i don't think it's the cheshire cat although i see the similarities. the sculpture is missing the iconic grin of the cheshire. there's a few artists out there who do anthropomorphic animals - some of it is wild!

thanks mikkochristmas11 and musikchoo. i've decided to ask the oakland museum if they have an expert in local sculpture/pottery who can take a look at all my sculptures and see if they recognize any of the work. i have a couple of them which i think are by known established artists.

i think that this one was done by one of the sculptors for the 1915 pan-american exhibit in san francisco: http://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/57994-fragment-of-a-stone-frieze

The classical figures in bas-relief sculpted panels are truly magnificent, and full- worthy of critical review by an authority. I swooned when I first saw them. So glad to hear this news, sir!! : )
