I'm trying to figure out what this helmet was used for. It's very old. My ex husband had it as a kid. It has a stamp that says 20th century fox on the back. The inside is an uneven surface that doesn't seem like it would be mass produced that way. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Looks like you have an early Don Post "Storm Trooper" helmet. Late 70's early 80's manufacture. They weren't very sophisticated because when they were designed it was for quick mass production to be used by extras. Back then CG tech was pretty limited so they still used 50 actual guys to make an army instead of duplicating the same digital image of 10 guys hundreds of times like today. Consequently, they saved money by not worrying about the inside of the helmet, since they knew it would never be seen. If you watch the original star wars movie, now called Episode IV a Aew Hope, you can see this fact in a couple of the scenes where the Storm Troopers are present if you watch closely. Even Luke's helmet, which was what was commonly called a "Hero" prop, is a thin shell like what you have, as you can see when he takes it off in the scene where he rescues Leia from the cell block in the Death Star. If you look up Don Post mask on the net you will likely learn more. A fine piece you have there. Treat it well.
