I bought this at an auction and was told it was a preacher's lecturn, made to be disassembled to so it could be carried on horseback. It has 3 wooden gears inside it, but I can figure out what they were meant to do. Can someone help me identify this item? The base is attached by a wooden peg and the whole thing comes apart into three separate pieces. The nails used to assemble it are hand-wrought Any help appreciated!!

did the gears raise/lower the height of the lectern? so interesting.
