I've had this lovely clock for years, but I don't plug it in because it runs so loud. Everything I know about it I learned at Collectors Weekly from comments about an identical clock posted a couple of years back, and for that information I am grateful!

Can Clockman or Mr. Windle tell me how to stop the noise? It's like a low buzzing or grinding. I learned from Mr. Windle's comment that it's possible to replace the "rotor," but I was wondering if there's anything I can do short of that.

It needs a rotor replacement, you can buy a refurbish rotor at: http://www.telechronclock.com/index.html
Just send the model number of the clock (check the bottom for the model number since it is not on the back).

Replacing the rotor is not that difficult, be forewarned that the two screws on the back of the clock are spring loaded and will shoot out, and the screws do not operate like normal screws in most cases (lefty loosey, righty tighty) they loosen by turning to the right and tighten by turning to the left, just the exact opposite of regular screws. The same with the two setting knobs if you have to remove them, use needle nose pliers to hold the stem of the setting knobs if you have to remove them. If you have a digital camera take a picture of anything you do, so when finished you can use the picture as a reference to put it back together.

      Thank you, Russ!
Esp. the warning about the spring loaded screws! And the needle nose pliers. I'll check out the website you recommended and see if a new rotor is affordable for me right now. The model number isn't on the bottom, though I think it might have been cuz there are two tiny screw marks as though a plate is missing. I got the model number from your previous posts about the other Talisman. Thanks also for the advice about taking pictures as I go. Great idea! My mother used to mark stuff with nail polish to be sure which went with which, but that was a very long time before digital cameras. My lovely clock has actually quieted down a bit, perhaps because I've plugged it in and it's been running a few days. Or perhaps cuz it's on the kitchen counter where I don't notice the sound. It runs kinda' hot, so I'm thinking of course you're right about replacing the rotor. I do thank you for sharing your knowledge. Glad I met you. Much obliged!
      Victoria.
