Many thanks, that's wonderful information. Seems to be a rare pattern - it does have a slight sheen to it, but not what would normally be considered lustreware, quite right. Intriguing amount of marks...
Sold for $300, so a great result for our Zonta service club! Looks like a trader purchased them, so I am sure there will be a little bit in it for them too. Thanks again everyone for your help.
So sorry I have just read your comments - I don't seem to get emails advising when members have commented. That's great advice, thanks! I listed the set on TradeMe (NZ's equivalent to ebay) for $300 ...
Just to update - this has been appraised and the chain and locket are 18 ct gold, a precious piece indeed!
Ah, mystery solved thanks to a great site called Pseudo Hallmarks, where a couple of the marks were to be found - https://www.silvercollection.it/dictionarysilverplatepseudohallmarks.html Apparentl...
Sorry for not responding sooner - I didn't seem to receive an email of comments! Thank you for your thoughts, appreciate it. They are very unusual aren't they, I don't even know how to describe them....
Many thanks! Mystery solved ... indeed you are right, they are 1892, the same as Replacements listings - I must have chosen the very one to photograph which was not clear! Thanks so much to you both f...

Meant to say, only 3 cms in diameter.
Thanks for your responses. Possibly was a watch originally - I will follow up with a jeweller in NZ. Cheers, Carol
Thanks for that guys, that makes sense - casts a new light on them! Are modern ones made with this splicing?
Thanks for your comments! Bit small for a bracelet for me and a child wouldn't be able to lift her arm, but good thought! Yes red copper would make sense, not quite brass, more rose gold. Horse tack i...
Many thanks for your suggestions maryh1956 - French or Portuguese would make sense .... may try the soaking and lighter fuel suggestions.
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately the plate hanger is affixed so firmly I am not confident I can remove it all - but perhaps I may have to try! Cheers, Carol
Many thanks for your informative response - my son and family are in Melbourne so that is interesting that this is a eucalypt (I have a huge one in my garden in Christchurch too!).
