  1. Lovely piece. It is missing the domed glass chimney for the burner. I suspect it is anywhere from the very late 19th century up until 1940 as the writing is not in the older archaic style.
  2. These are not smoking opium. Opium is heated not burned. These people appear to be smoking tobacco.
  3. The bone one is a replica. The wood carved one is not for Opium. It is for tobacco and likely carved for the Western market.
  4. Actually, I didn’t mean India, I meant Indochina.
  5. Sadly these ones are mostly replicas. Nice novelties though and good conversation pieces. I suspect this is from India.
  6. These are replicas and not actual pipes. Nice novelty items and pleasing to the eye none the less. Commonly sold on eBay and Etsy, etc..
  7. It is an opium pipe, just one of many styles of pipes. As to whether it is authentic or a replica is harder to say however I’m leaning towards replica.a lot of the pieces coming out of Asia are replic...
  8. Lovely!
  9. This looks more like a travel trunk or hope chest. Opium boxes are about the size of a cigar box, nothing as big as this. Also, British made Opium paraphernalia is almost none existent and this has th...
  10. Yes, small low tables like this were often used as Opium tables. The items and burners would be laid out on it. Many people mistakenly think that Opium smokers lay down while partaking Opium because t...
  11. These were used for vaping Opium. There are many many different styles of Opium pipes. The wire implement was used for forming an Opium ball for heating up, not for cleaning the pipe. There would norm...
  12. Definitely an Opium lamp. Hard to date from the photo. It could be anything from 19th century to mid 20th century. Your guess of 1970 could be correct if it came from Thailand, Laos, or Cambodia.
  13. I know this post is old but what a wonderful piece! I hope you still have it. It’s a real antique and quite unique. Quite valuable today as there has been a resurgence in interest in them and the fact...
  14. Definitely a fake. Most likely made of resin and/or bone. As commented by someone else above, easily obtained on eBay claiming to be antique but are simply novelty pieces.
  15. Definitely a scent bottle and nothing to do with Opium.
  16. I know this post is quite old now, but the bottle shown is a snuff bottle, not for Opium. It is English made and the spoon was for getting the correct amount of snuff (about a pinch) and held to the n...
  17. It was definitely made in China. The bat motifs signify happiness. As you mentioned earlier, it is indeed missing the glass dome shaped chimney. While it is most likely made for the export market, ...
  18. Actually Dr. M’Munn’s Elixir of Opium was in distribution from the late 1830’s. He also published a book about it in 1837. https://books.google.com.au/books/about/Dr_M_Munn_s_Elixir_of_Opium.html?id=Q...
  19. I know this post is quite old however it is indeed an opium box. I hope you still have it as opium related items are increasing in popularity. Bat motifs are commonly used on opium related objects.
  20. I know this posting is quite old now, but yes, it is an opium pipe. There are many different forms of them. This one appears to be bone. I hope you still have it as the vintage ones are bringing quite...
