Thank you kivatinitz I'm so pleased to have found it ,it is one of a pair but the other is not signed just numbered. I've never seen another that is signed .
Bob the 101 is the pattern number and they used the green colour mark during the Boer War years apparently.
I think they are likely to be a lot earlier than 1950 , they seem to have 5 dots to the left and 4 dots to the right which dates them 1900 .
Thank you, it does look very old, it has a lot of crazing on it .
Thank you Katherinescollections I have uploaded a photo of the base, if you also zoom in on the lid there is some writing in gold just under the ladies .
