Nice placement of the compass & square.

These tools were made to last more than a lifetime. You were close in new world terms Walks, that isn't a compass. Those are scribes, the tips were needle sharp and would cut a very fine line in the grain of the wood as opposed to using a compass with a pencil. The fine line is very important when doing cabinet work and or inlay to get a proper cut and fit. Not many use them anymore. It costs to much now days to do things the way were done years ago. Wonderful little display. This post made me smile and remember days gone by.

My brain wasn't connected to my fingers, I was thinking one thing & typed in another. It was to be a divider & square, in reference to the Freemasons symbol.

You are correct fhrjr2, those tools were made to last more than a lifetime.

Regardless of what we call them, they will be here when we are gone. If only they were still made that way. But then who would know how to use them?

Thank you for your comments, guys! I'm glad, that my post made you a bit happier, fhrjr2; Concerning compass, IMHO they still use it in naval navigation.
