First post. Hello, I've been trying to find out anything about this recent purchase and come up with nothing online. It's 9" across and looks to have been painted in NY (Nundes?) by WL Dailes. Is this a one of a kind plate? Has anyone seen other pieces in this vein? Was this motif connected to some story? I assume it was painted around the turn of the century on an imported blank. It struck me as so strange I had to buy it even though I don't usually buy porcelain. Thanks for any info you have.

Pam, I did a google search on W.L Dailey porcelin and came up with a lot of images: https://www.google.com/search?q=w+l+dailey+porcelin&num=100&newwindow=1&safe=off&espv=210&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=X5lAU8jTMvLyyAGg0oCADw&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg&biw=1920&bih=993

And apparently it is Nunda, N.Y. A town in Livingston county. Still looking for mentions, probably a jeweler

Ok, I found this also.. Pretty cool! From the Nunda, N.Y News in a 50 years ago coulumn from 1953 (that would make it 1903): "W. L. Dailey, well-known Nunda china painter, was invited to act as a judge in the art department of the Hornell fair". Here's the link, the blurb is in the middle of the page:

Thank you so much for the information. My problem was I searched for Dailes not Dailey! I can't believe you found that tiny blurb in a 70 year old paper, too! I'm still wondering what inspired the rat design. Thinking it must of been based on poem, story or some such.

Good one, aghcollect. As a side note, the name of the town is pronounced as
Nun-day, it's south of Rochester, N.Y.. My wife's father used to hunt there!

rubylane also has a teapot, creamer and sugarbowl set with the same Tressemann & Vogt Limoges signed the same way. W.L. Dailey, Nunda, NY
