At first I thought dressing chair, but seems too short.

Certainly looks like you sit on it "backwards" and lean on the rest. Interesting!

Sitting on it backwards and leaning on it is very comfortable! That's how I have been using it :)

My father-in-law has the same chair. He believes it is a gentleman's chair as it has a cup link holder on the back rest. I am also looking to see if I can find the maker or age of his chair.

After a great deal of Google searching. This is a Writers Chair! You sit on it backwards, and write while resting on the wooden arm. Still unable to find any information on the age or the maker of this chair.

I believe these came out when the big fad of the day was ergonomic chairs. Late 70's and early 80's everything had to be correct ergonomically. Remember the kneeling chairs for computer users back then? This chair has no stretchers at all so that speaks for it. Back then people made millions trying to convince us this type thing would cure our aches and pains. You don't see them for sale or made anymore so that lends a hint also.
