16 size 19 jewel Waltham Watch

I repair Watches in Maynard, Mass. and ran across this in my inventory, I get no results looking up serial number for this watch.

You can try to look up the serial number and you'll find "nadda", zip, nothing, it appears that a 7 was etched into the barrel bridge at the beginning of the serial number. I was bummed out at first, thinking that someone may have swapped out the the barrel bridge so I checked all the other plate parts and the serial number repeats throughout the movement on all the parts that are usually stamped. This is the serial number that repeats: 1015119, all except for the barrel bridge with the extra 7 at the beginning that was added by someone, and I'm not sure why.

If anyone can offer some info I would be glad to receive it. thanks Paul Bubb

I believe this is an E. Howard movement made by Waltham. It is unusual that there are no makers markings.

When Keystone acquired the rights to use the Howard name they contracted with Waltham to make their first Howard movements. One of those was a 16-size 19-jewel movement with a new 3/4-plate pattern.

This model was marked "E.Howard & Co., Boston". Eventually, Keystone disposed of their unsold Waltham-made movements, but before they did they milled their name off of the plates and polished the name off of the dial.

A number of these surplus movements had the Howard name re-engraved by hand.
