I need help with this one, I am thinking Rosin. Can anyone out there assist?

The 'Golden Egg' measures 3.5" in Height by 2.25" in Width. It looks as if it is an unusual planet, around which, a ring is revolving :)

I really did not find a good sub-category in Mid -Century Modern, in which to put this piece.
