I just found this item at a thrift store. It is marked Nippon and measures around 2 inches by 1 and 1/2 inch. Does anyone know what it is? Also, is it real Nippon or a later fake? Thanks!

Also, does anyone know the purpose of the little box? It is somewhat difficult to see in the photo, but the wells slope up at roughly 45 degrees from the corner.

This is a stamp box; part of a desk set that would include inkwell, letter rack, possibly a rocker blotter, etc.
