These four items caught my eye on the walls inside the circa 1890 railroad station display at the Shelburne Museum in Vermont, where I stopped on my whirlwind summer '10 east coast antiques tour.

The first is a series of clocks showing departure times for various northbound and southbound trains from Vergennes (next town over from Shelburne). Love the simple stenciled typeface. Beats a flat panel display any day!

Next is a scale model and some builders-type photos of various locomotives.

Third, a beautiful 1893 color drawing of an early locomotive which set some kind of speed record (47 minutes) in 1864 between Burlington and Rutland. The exact wording includes the following: "Built by the Amoskeag Manufacturing Co Manchester NH 1851." In 1893, this would have been like us talking about a 1970s Corvette.

Finally, a total non-sequitur... a Southern Pacific Sunset Route poster. It may be period, but I highly doubt Southern Pacific trains went anywhere near Vermont in the 1890s. Maybe the curator was originally from California and figured why not? Nice poster, anyhow.
