Born in Boston, Mass., Joan Tatum had made her home on the Peninsula for 48 years. She was an artist with a national following, known principally for her ceramic angels and decorated redware pottery. Locally, her work appeared at On the Hill in Yorktown and Blue Skies Gallery in Hampton. She attend Saint Margaret's School in Tappahanock and Chatham College in Pittsburgh, and graduated from the College of William & Mary.
