Looks handmade. No markings of manufacture. Handle moves up and down pulling a block with a slot in it. Then theres a hinged lid.

    Unsolved Mystery

Bobby That was what I was seeing at first too but if you zoom in (mainly pic 1) the block that moves has a notch (the top is hinged)
Didn't help me figure it our, seems I/we have seen one of these before tho.

Im posting this for my father in law. Im not able to get a video due to my current location. The block with the notch moves up and down via the hand lever. The lid is hinged and flips shut but there is no latch or locking mechanism for the lid. Thw notch it throwing us for a loop as well. The guy he bought it from did not know what it was either.

I think part of it is missing, a blacksmiths bellows

Except for that slot it reminds me of someone's idea of a butter press - fill the cavity with strained butter pieces, close the lid, and press. Then open the top and push the solidified block up and out. What are the dimensions of the chamber when the block is all the way down? About the size of a pound of butter? Maybe various decorative blocks for the butter were somehow held by the slot?

Butter press is the most logical idea ive heard. I can picture how the slot may have held a die of some sort for decoration. It is about tgw right size for a big 1lb block. I just can't find any pictures of anything similar online.
