Libbey 5-Gallon Glass Piggy Bank
I can absolutely say...this is the biggest piggy bank I own! Made by Libbey. Has The original cork snout. Back says "this little pig went to market". I believe these were made in the 1970s?

"Edward Drummond Libbey, son of the first corporate owner, William, moved the company to Toledo, Ohio."
WHY OHIO?
Ohio had natural resources such as, abundent deposits of natural gas and large deposits of fine quality sand. AND..they had railroads and steamships...perfect for moving their products.
". In 1892, the name was changed to The Libbey Glass Company."

THIS LITTLE PIGGY WENT TO MARKET
"In 1728, the first line of the rhyme appeared in a medley called "The Nurse's Song". The first known full version was recorded in The Famous Tommy Thumb's Little Story-Book, published in London about 1760."
Is this an innocent rhyme or does it have a darker meaning?

I have 2 of these pigs but mine are clear glass rather than amber.
Mine came to me from my parents’ convenience store. They originally came full of penny bubblegum and sat on the counter near the cash register.
One of mine still has it’s cork nose.

Something I always wanted !~
This is the first one I had seen in person and had to buy it. They are available, but shipping is expensive due to the size and it being glass. I bundled it with other pieces and got a great price.
Now, that is the coolest (and BIGGEST) piggy bank I've ever seen!!

We had an exchange student from Germany who bought me an amber one as a goodbye gift in 1984. He told me to fill it with change then use the money to come visit him and his family. Due to one thing and another it never got filled. In 2009 the bank got broken and was too expensive to replace. My husband found a clear one at a garage sale (he wouldn't tell me how much he paid for it!) in about 2016. In 2021 I found an amber one at an antique/junk store so I bought it! Now I have 2 of them and have no idea what to do with them other than try to fill both and exchange the money for a trip to Europe some day!
