Found this at the SPCA. When I first left the shop all I had was in the 2nd picture.
On getting home the "hallmarks" and series number had me looking for some information on what went in the 2 holes. Blow me down if it wasn't a stag...........but there was a metal stag in the shop I even picked it up but thought I didn't want it as there was something fishy about the antlers. I did now!!
Fortunately after making a very hurried trip back (it's a popular shop) it was still there!
The reason the stag looked a bit funny is that the antlers had broken off and been soldered on in a very unnatural way. I managed to get them off with the gas torch but it appears I don't have all of them and not the bases so they are sitting in one of the inkwells for now.

The stags do shed their antlers once a year so are bereft for a short while. He's probably grumpy at having his photo taken at such a "difficult" time :)
