On top: To Helen, From Johnny, Engagement, 8.3.29
This is the only ring box in my entire collection that is dated. This box is not actually mother of pearl, but the green celluloid/plastic has a similar effect. Although the inside is completely gutted and the hinge is broken, this ring box has certain value. Its history is plainly engraved on its lid, and the message says it all except if Helen said yes, which I hope she did.
