I found this very large and quite rare woodblock print today at a second-hand store. This one is 16" x 11.5" and is in perfect condition [from what i know - which is limited]. I found a good frame for it and will have it framed in a period frame from the 1920s. Katsuhira was entirely self-taught and never really influenced by other artists of his time. His work has a very folksy appeal to it. He came out of a movement of Farmer Artists in the 1920s. All very interesting stuff! The colors on this are great. I can't quite tell what this woman is doing, but i think she's washing rice. Maybe someone else can clarify this.
you must be right the series are in themes, (actually i did,not knew), probably the peasant and harvesting theme around 1950-1958

you probably are rightbut it is awfull difficult to sample, so i don,t know
i brought this to the framers yesterday along with a nice 1920s Maxfield Parrish-style frame. I think it will look good.
I think the framer did a nice job with this print. I used an old 1920s maxfield parrish-ish frame and a blue matte which brings out the same shade of blue in the print and the frame.
he is not only a good framer it is also a good colorist, what an trouvaille, it is not about the blue but about the ocher, and he pimped the pimped in a sort of a type of rural ocher and brown tonality, , looks like a type or Russian icon style around 1830

You have also a nice Charles J. S. Makin print on you wall (The Sunset Prayer in the Desert). This could be from 1913.
