Hi,

I just bought theses two items from Goodwill. I though they looked interesting. As you can see, the point screws off so that it can be filled with something. They weigh about 2.5 lbs each and the inside glass looks quite thick. Does anyone know what theses are and what they are/were used for. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

those look like oilers to me-little oil cans for sewing machines probably, they are cool-I have never seen any thing like these before, great thrift store find!

Thank you all for the help. Now I can see how they may be oilers or scent bottles. Czechman, I looked at your bottle and it's beautiful. I love the dark glass. If nothing else, doing the research on these items led me to this website. I am hooked and thrilled to see all of the wonderful items people have and love. I look forward to future finds and posting the pics. Thanks again for the help.
HAPPY NEW YEAR and happy hunting to all!

They are not oilers if they are 2.5 pounds each in weight. The oilers referred to can be held in the palm of your hand. It is good to put something in the photo for size reference or give the size in the listing.

They MAY be for Barbers Bottles holding scented water. That makes much more sense.

You're right. Yesterday I found something on ebay that looks similar. They describe it as a vintage middle eastern scent oil bottle cruet silver, glass. Check out the ebay bottle and tell me if you agree.
I'll make sure to do the size reference thingy next time.

To check out the E-Bay auction a auction number is needed or better yet a link pasted here.

For the day when those auctions are no longer available ...
    Middle Eastern Scent/perfume bottles.
Barber Bottles were used in Barber Shops as a lot of scent was used in a days time. In the Middle East, the lack of water and the heat resulted in men wearing a lot of cologne. As these don't fit the image of most Western Barber Bottles, I would tend to believe these served the same purpose for a well off Middle Eastern male, holding cologne/scent.
