What an amazing piece, lucky you to own it, highly unusual and I have many books on antiques and furniture price guides but can't remember seeing anything like it !! It is most worthy of some research, I will keep my eyes peeled.
It is AMAZING! Just the piece we are looking for!!!
Thanks to you both. It came out of a Chevy Chase, MD. auction house sale this time last year. Maddeningly it has no identifiable markings. The beveled glass inserts remind me of the stylized female figures in Koloman Moser's 1902 13th Exhibition poster for the Wiener Secession (see here: http://www.moma.org/collection/object.php?object_id=133907).
It really is a fine piece of furniture, but very different to any Moser furniture I've ever seen... those have bolder designs. Still, a most lovely bookcase! :)
I certainly wasn't attributing the case to Moser; just that the beveled glass design looked like his 13th exhibition poster. I wish I had a Moser original...but that would require my winning the lottery! ;)
Sorry I missundertood that, cogito :) I wish we all could win our lotteries :)
Couldn't it be Scottish? I saw some cabinets made by E A Taylor for Wylie and Lochhead and immediately thought of this one...
