These cards are from my 88 year old mothers house. They have no writting on them, no numbers, no letters, no aces, no jokers but there are 52 cards. There are all four suits. The box is folded, dried out brown glue on the sides, and opens only from the top. No Tax Stamp. Some of the cards are stained and it seems to be from the glue on the box. They are not plastic coated and seem to be made of heavy paper. The corners are square, the sides not painted, the fronts are the same decoration as the box. I think they are from the 1800's but just cannot find anything matching these in the Encylopedia of Cards. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

The style of cards with no numbers is consistent with the late nineteenth century.
The wood grained box is interesting.

Thank you, yes I thought the box was strange, seeing the wood grain, I didnt know if I was just seeing it that way and it was stained by the glue.
These are really neat looking.
While looking around the internet I found a site that sells reproductions especially for re-enactors this is what it said:
"To insure they are useable by a wide range of reenactors (and help keep the cost low) we have specifically avoided recreating a period wrapper, or tax stamp so they are not tied to any one era." http://historicgames.com/RPcards.html

Update: I contacted and received an email from the Historicgames.com website. They are very nice and answered very quickly. Unfortunately these cards are not a product of theirs.

These look good but if they were really old that box couldn't belong as decks period to those court cards would not have that box. Very interesting but probably an older reproduction that we have never seen.
