Hello,
I love this piece. I've had it for years, bought it with another that was a vintage, commercially made 'VERDUN' matchbox holder,....I've seen several of that type on ebay and other sites, but this one is special.
Thanks for taking a look

I love these trench art matchbox holders!
They come in an endless variety. Those with unit/ military motifs seem to bring a premium.
Pls share your other trench art items and when you have a chance take a look at my postings.

Thanks Scott. I saw your many incredible pieces of trench art, and the other many wonderful things you've posted.
I have a couple of other pieces that I'll track down and post. One piece may not be trench art, but it's a beautiful item.
Have a great day!!!
The front looks like it was copied from a British Royal Artillery cap badge, but it says "World War" in German. The back has an Iron Cross pattern, but Bon Jeaux sounds French ("Bon jeux" would be "Good Game"!). There seems to be something for everyone in this piece!
Thank You for your comment, Chrisnp.
I appreciate the information, good to know where the different design elements come from. Do you suppose it might be German?
Thanks again,
Tony.
I'm only guessing German, because of the "Welt Krieg" on one side and because I think the French on the other side is incorrectly spelled - so perhaps a foreign language to the engraver.
Thanks Chris!
Have a great week-end.
