This piece of trench art is unusual in that the maker has punch stamped his name into the piece.
The rim carries the following stamping: "Made by W.M. Rucker", "March 9, 1944 S.W.P.A", "2nd Engr. Spec. Brig."
Rucker served in the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade, but I do not know his rank or duty position.
The 2nd Engineer Special Brigade was an amphibious unit that provided landing craft support for assault landings in the Pacific theater. It participated in 82 combat landings with 15 different assault Divisions(transporting 2 million men and 1.5 million tons of cargo).
The unit earned campaign streamers for: East Indies , Northern Solomons, New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Bismarck Archipelago and Luzon.

The hammered bowl is nice, is this style common?
No, walksoftly, the hammered bowl is uncommon. Typically, these will just have standard cut shell base.
scott
That's kinda what I was getting at, I've only ever seen the cut shell base.
The craftsman was a cut above the rest!
Thanks walksoftly-- I am glad that there are others out there with an interest in this as well!
