I was going through some old paper and found this postcard of what appears to be of a couple of ships in very icy waters. The only place I could think of with those kinds of conditions would be the Arctic, but I am looking for input on where it may be from.

could also be newfoundland, iceland, or many other places in the cold north.
could this be the Greely Disaster off Newfoundland?

Thanks, I tried the name and it took place in the 1880s so this postcard is probably not of it. However, I wonder if the five ships shown in the RPPC were abandoned in the ice and the ship on which the photo was taken may have been a rescue ship.

Yes, you would! I am unsure of the location so it could have made the news and I just can't find it.

On my computer the first scan comes up same size as the thumbnail & the other one not very big either.
A couple of observations.
This may not be a maritime disaster as such, the ice has multiple layers to it which suggests repeated flooding of river ice.
These twin masted fishing schooners have no sails on them & may have been at anchor in harbor.
There appears to be pieces of wood sticking out of the ice, parts of docks possibly.
It doesn't have to be arctic to have ice.
