I just rediscovered this little vase hiding in my office and have become curious as to what it represents, being such a strange shape. It measures just over 7" tall and 4.5" at its widest. It is clearly marked with an 'M' in a wreath and "hand painted Nippon", which I know is the old mark for Japan. Do not know who "M" is or what this is for. It is incredibly decorated as you can see. Any help with this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
Noritake - Mark: "M" standing for "Morimura" in a wreath, crowned by "Hand painted" and below, NIPPON. Date: Introduced in 1911 and possible in use until 1921.

I would say it is a vase - just google noritake vase and look for similar images. I saw similar shapes but not your pattern. Since it says Nippon and not Japan, it is pre-1921. Per the info above regarding the backstamp, there is only a 10-year window for its manufacture.
I have a similarly shaped vase, Nippon, but not the quality of yours. Am pretty sure this was meant to be just that: ornamental. Yours truly is. I love the tiny Moriage drops in the gold with the enameled accents.
