This a great piece, but I have no idea what it is, or what it was used for. Very heavy, and pretty old. The plate says Western Electric I-C Holding Time Recorder.

Could you replace picture #1 with a clearer image.
I was hoping ttom would have the answer to this one.
It looks like a chief operators checking position to see how long a customer has to wait for a operator to look up and give a customer a phone number.
