    Found this old chest of drawers at a yard sale and paid $15 for it. Want to rehab it but don't know what the built in boxes on the top were used for. Thought it was an interesting item and thinking of how I will refinish it.

      I think that being a piece of furniture intended for a bedroom they must be some kind of "vide poche"/pocket emptier... watches, wallets. I'd say jewels too, but I find this hest of drawers a more masculine one

      I 'd leave it alone. It looks really good like this. Love the construction. Peg joints?
      Arts and Crafts look to it. Very nice find.

      Those pegs are show, not real. That was popular very late 50's and early 60's.
