It's about 14 inches high and 8 inches across. Looks very old. Any ideas on what it is and where it came from would be helpful.

Is this ceramic ? The chip gives it away in photo 2.

It's traditional Berber pottery, from Morocco.
Brilliant, thanks, I have searched Berber pottery and found pots just like it. I have another strange red clay pot that needs identifying and will post it after Christmas
