My grandmother (far right) wrote a letter to her sister Lydia when their mother Susannah passed away in Nov. of 1913. Susannah is shown in the two pictures on the left. The letter was five pages long, but I only posted the first page. It was a very touching letter as you can imagine. Folks back then couldn't get from place to place in time for funerals and my grandmother gave her sister a detailed account of their mother's death and funeral, as well as sending a flower from the casket. On one page she talks about how "nice that the Government furnishes a $50 casket for soldier's wives." I have copies of the letter, but a descendant of Lydia has the original.

Indeed they do. Every time I find a story about an ancestor, I feel like I'm turning a page in a history book. Thanks......
